Think about it... What is the function of your stomach? It breaks down and digests food particles to extract essential nutrients from the food you eat. Rats are mammals, and they share many of the same genetic traits as humans- why would it be any different for them? A stomach is a stomach, regardless of what being it belongs to, haha. The functions are the same. :)
