No, that is not the correct way to write the sentence. The sentence contains grammatical issues. 

I believe, the correct sentence structure is:

Charlie was mildly amused at how careful Jared was with his appearance; it just wasn't Charlie's way.

But, in another perspective, no change could also be correct.

A situation in which I applied needs identification would be choosing a college. A place that would consume the better part of the next three years of my life. I wanted to examine all of the minor details to make sure the decision I made was one that could last.
