How is a grand jury different from a petit jury? A petit jury is a small group of people who decide guilt or innocence. A grand

jury is a large jury that hears a criminal trial. A grand jury decides whether to try someone for a crime. A petit jury decides who to try for a crime in a state court.

A Petit jury is a small group of people who decide guilt or innocence

Explanation: A Grand jury jury is a large group  which is consist of 16-23 people. This jury does not determines that if someone is innocent or guilty.The grand jury only determines that whether the crime was committed or not based on the evidence of US attorney. If the grand jury says that the crime is committed then the prosecution file a charge.

On other hand petit jury is a smaller group than the grand jury. Petit jury consist of 6-12 people. Petit jury listen to the both defendant and plaintiff and determines whoever is guilty or innocent.
