Ans.

Genetic engineering involves manipulation of genetic material of an organisms to get desired characteristics.

Model organisms are those organisms that have been extensively studied to understand a specific biological phenomenon, because of having similar genetic constitution to other complex organisms. These organisms are easy to breed and maintain in laboratory conditions and thus, are having experimental advantages.

For example, zebra fish is used as model organism for humans. They share about 70% genetic material with humans and 84 % of humans genes, associated with diseases have counterpart in zebra fish are common. They have same major tissues and organs as found in humans, such as kidney, eyes, muscle, and blood.

Thus, zebra fish is a good choice to use a model organism in genetic engineering.

A group of eight students has taken a sample of their own cheek cells, purified the DNA, and used a restriction enzyme known to
myrzilka [38]

Answer:

See the explanation.

Explanation:

Gel electrophoresis is a technique used to separate DNA fragments by size and charge. Electrophoresis consists in applying a current through a gel that contains the molecules of interest. Based on their size and load, the molecules will travel through the gel in different directions or at different speeds, thereby separating each other. All DNA molecules have the same amount of charge per mass. Because of this, gel electrophoresis separates DNA fragments only by their size.

Electrophoresis allows us to see how many different DNA fragments are present in a sample and how large they are with respect to each other. We can also determine the absolute size of a DNA fragment by examining it next to a standard "scale" of fragments of known size.

Hope this helps!
