Answer:

The most serious consequence of sleep apnea is heart stroke and heart attack.

Explanation:

Sleep apnea is a medical sleep disorder in which the breathing process is interrupted continuously during sleep because of the blockage in the air passage. The most serious consequence which can be caused by sleep apnea is heart attack or heart stroke due to abnormal heartbeat in the sleep apnea patient. The abnormal heartbeat occurs because of the sudden decrease in oxygen amount in the blood.

Further explanation:

In sleep apnea disorder the breathing of the person is obstructed continuously during sleep due to blockage of air passage by soft tissue. There are three types of sleep apnea in which obstructive sleep apnea is most common and obesity is the most common reason for this disorder in adults. Central sleep apnea and complex sleep apnea are other two.

The symptoms of obstructive and central sleep apnea are similar and include loud snoring, dry mouth, headache in morning, day sleeping, shortness of breath during sleep.

Sleep apnea if untreated can cause serious problems like serious cardiovascular disease, premature death, fatigue during day time, diabetes, metabolic syndromes, etc.

Out of these cardiovascular problems are among the serious consequences of sleep apnea because it can result in a heart attack. A decrease in blood oxygen level increases the blood pressure and leads to abnormal heartbeat which increases the risk of heart attack.
