Kant's theory of knowledge attempts to resolve the opposition between rationalism and empiricism.

Explanation:

For rationalism all our knowledge has its origin in reason, and this, by applying the correct method, can aspire to know everything.

For empiricism, the origin and limit of our knowledge is experience and therefore, the only reason is impossible.

Kant's solution involves making a synthesis of rationalism and empiricism. This consists in affirming that there is only knowledge when the sensible elements of knowledge are added to the rational elements of knowledge.
