The correct answer is A. maintaining homeostasis.
Homeostasis is a term referring to an organisms continuous process of maintaining and auto-regulating the conditions of its internal environment. Variables such as pH, temperature, and fluid balance need to be at optimal conditions in order for the organism to function properly.
In this example, the phosphate buffer system permits the organisms to maintain a constant pH in their intracellular fluid. This is one of the organism's homeostatic mechanisms.

A student formulated a hypothesis that cotton will grow larger bolls (node) if magnesium is added to added to the soil. The stud
natali 33 [55]

Answer:

(b) diameter of the cotton bolls in both fields

Explanation:

According to the hypothesis, the application of magnesium to cotton plants would support the growth of large cotton bolls. The field without magnesium would serve as control here. Cotton bolls from both the fields should be collected and their diameter should be measured.

If the diameter of the cotton bolls from the field with magnesium application is more than that of the cotton bolls from the control field with no magnesium, the hypothesis is correct. Therefore, measurement and comparison of the diameter of cotton bolls from the experimental and control field would allow the student to check the hypothesis.

Which of the following characteristics, structures, or processes is common to both bacteria and viruses? A. Metabolism B. Riboso
Darina [25.2K]

Answer:

C. Genetic material composed of nucleic acid

Explanation:

The information needed by every organism to perform life functions like reproduction, growth etc are held in the genetic material that the organism carries in its genome. Every genetic material of organisms is composed of nucleic acids, which are only two in nature i.e. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) and Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). This is a common feature of all organisms including bacteria and viruses that they contain genetic material which must be in form of a nucleic acid.

The viruses do not undergo a cell division, neither do they contain protein synthesis structures called Ribosomes because they do not have the ability to reproduce or perform any living process outside a living host cell. This means that they strictly depend on another organism's transcriptional, translational, replicational ability to survive.

The muscular system helps maintain body temperature. Explain why humans shiver in the cold. Be sure to discuss the process of ce
docker41 [41]
The muscular system contributes to maintaining homeostasis by working with other body systems to regulate body temperature and dilate or constrict blood vessels close to the skin's surface, according to OpenCurriculum. The muscular, nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine and integumentary systems work together to cause sweating and shivering in the body, which contribute to homeostasis.
