The Odyssey was a poem written by Homer. Odysseus (Ulysses), a courageous and intelligent warrior,  struggled for a good number of years before returning home after the Trojan War. During his voyage, he fought with mystical creatures, and witnessed the wrath of the gods. At home, Ithaca, his wife, Penelope and son, Telemachus, strive hard to preserve the throne till her husband's return.

A goddess, Athena, appeared to him and commanded him to return home, if not, his wife would remarry and their heritage would be lost to another kingdom.

Eumaeus, one of Odysseus' loyal servants, visited the palace to inform Penelope of her husband's return.
