 The answer is the second one.Anaya provides  the conlusion her friend has made.  She explains or in other words, reports what she has been said and provides a conclusion analysing the thoughts given.On the other hand, Nye uses her own experience, something she has observed .She presents some details and hopes that this observation helps her purpose   .
