Nationalism caused World War 1 . People put nationalism in their country above other countries which caused a lot of conflict
I believe the Cold War between US and Soviet Union began after World war II. Both countries have a mutual distrust of each other primarily due to a couple of reasons. The Soviet Union leader's Stalin at the time had a tyrannical and communism tendencies in ruling Soviet Union and his post war communism expansion efforts in Eastern Europe made the US feared the Soviet Union had intention to control the part of Eastern Europe. It became foreign policy for US to contain Soviet Union communism expansion tendencies. The Cold War resulted to both countries competitiveness on arms race and space race.
Jefferson and Hamilton diverged in what they saw as the appropriate size and role of the Federal Government in America's new Federalist system.
Hamilton believed that a strong Executive and Federal Government was needed if the US was to be successful moving forward.
Jefferson, ever wary, opposed a strong Federal executive even though he would later as President unilaterally expand the United States with the Louisiana Purchase. So, in many ways Hamilton would win but Jefferson's view would haunt American government for years to come.
