Earl discovered many beetles examining the rosebushes. Correct the misplaced modifier
skelet666 [1.2K]

Answer:

Examining the rosebushes, Earl discovered many beetles.

Explanation:

A misplaced modifier is a word or more complex structure (phrase or a clause) that modifies the wrong word in a sentence giving it grammatically correct, but completely illogical meaning. So this sentence is telling us that Earl discovered many beetles that were examining the rosebushes. It is obvious that beetles can not examine and that this phrase (examining the rosebushes) is modifying the wrong word ( beetles instead of Earl).

We also have to pay attention to punctuation which changes when we place modifier on the right place, comma should separate modifier and the rest of the sentence.

Which contraction correctly completes the sentence? Wally __________ capable of lifting the heavy box. A. wasn't B. weren't
mrs_skeptik [129]
A. Wasn't.. This is because if you seperatevthe contractioninto two words it is was not, this would make the sentence be "Wally was not capable of lifting the heavy box."
If you were to do the same thing with weren't it would sound like "wally were not capable of lifting the heavy box." This does not make sense because "wally" is singular (so is "was not") and "were not" is pleural.

Hope this helps

How does Shakespeare present Macbeth's and lady Macbeth's reaction to Duncan's death
m_a_m_a [10]
Especially after the murder of Duncan, Shakespeare subverts these stereotypes. Shakespeare explains the aftermath of Duncan’s murder by showing how Lady Macbeth and Macbeth feel during their intimate conversation. Macbeth’s emotions override his personal nature due to the pressure he is put in of being caught, essentially for Lady Macbeth’s actions. However, Lady Macbeth is calm throughout the conversation, she is the one who is calming down Macbeth for the deed he had just committed.
