The western mountain system is also called the western cordilleras . These are extensive mountain system that run along the western part of North America They lie between Alaksha and Isthmus if Panama. It extends about 6500 km. Many active volcano and hot springs are found in the system. The Ring of fire is a string of volcano.
Canadian Shield is a plateau that covers approximately half of Canada. The Canadian Shield is also called Laurentian shield. It is centred around the Hudson Bay. It is situated in the north and north- eastern parts of America .About half of the area of Canadian is occupied by the Canadian Shield. It has the hardest and the oldest rocks in South America.
