KIM [24]

Her beauty and ease mask a darker reality is the inference that can be made about Daisy Buchanan.

Nick Carraway, the character and narrator in The Great Gatsby , is making this description of Daisy, his cousin. Nick is having dinner with Daisy and , her husband, Tom and with Jordan Baker, Daisy's beautiful friend. Nick and Daisy are having a shallow conversation about the butler ,but Daisy tells Nick she has got a secret to tell him. At that moment ,Nick observes Daisy 's beauty " a moment the last sunshine ........her glowing face" ; then he feels forced to listen to the secret: "her voice compelled me ...... I listened..." ,but ,after the butler has come back to tell Tom, secretely, he has got a telephone call, Daisy's beauty vanishes : " then the glow faded, ...... lingering regret,..". Daisy's beauty is hiding a secret or a darker reality. In fact, Tom has a lover and the phone call is from her. Daisy knows about her husband's love affair.

A universal theme is an idea that can be shared with anybody, regardless of cultural differences. They are ways to connect to ideas to different people. The universal/main theme(s) of "The Odyssey" is that about a hero that is brave, hospitable, and loyal.

Haven't read this in a while, but I did my best. Hope that helped. :)

Read the following excerpt from the article "Vision, Voice and the Power of Creation: An Author Speaks Out," by T. A. Barron, an
3241004551 [841]

T. A. Barron would treats setting on par with characters--equally as alive and complex.

The author T. A. Barron discusses how he had authored a text about a tree that was, what he noted as, a tree’s biography. It should be noted, however, that even though a tree is alive, a tree is typically understood to be inanimate because it is not alive in the same was as an animal. This means that whenever trees are mentioned in writing, they are typically just background/part of the setting. That said, by noting he had written a tree’s biography and considers trees characters, what that implies is that he, too, would treat setting in his work as alive and on equal ground as a regular characters because of the way he considers trees (what are typically just part of the setting) as tantamount with animate objects.
