The Bacon's Rebellion took place between 1676-77 and was a violent uprising against the rulers of the colonies. Thousands of locals from Virginia took part in the protest which culminated in the burning of Jamestown. Order took a couple of years to restore thanks to the help of English soldiers who arrived to control the situation.
It was the first sign of a disenfranchised local population who had the power and the will to stand up the government and cause major havoc. We eventually saw a similar uprising which resulted in the American revolutionary war.
The Reconstruction era redefined U.S. citizenship and expanded the franchise, changed the relationship between the federal government and the governments of the states, and highlighted the differences between political and economic democracy.
