Answer:

The Strait of Malacca is a strategic geographical point. It was so 500 years ago and it´s so still today. Its control allowed decisive influence on the trade routes with India and China, as any merchant ships had to pass throught the strait. This was a neuralgic point of the highly valued spice trade.  Afonso de Albuquerque wanted to take control of the routes and establish militarized settlements along them to guarantee Portugal´s hegemony.

1989-Pope John Paul II visited LechWalesa and gave him advice. At the same time,<span> The government lifted the ban</span>on Solidarity.

Then around 1990, Lech Walesa won the first freepresidential elections in Poland.

Lech Walesa won the NobelPeace prize.

Serfs may eventually work their way to freedom (usually not), if you know the term tenant farmers, individuals who work on a property with some believe that eventually they may pay their debts off and become a freeman. An enslaved person, will never believe that they will eventually become free.
