- 'former' refers to the first group/thing
- 'latter' refers to the second/last group/thing
So in this case, 'former' is referred to the supporters, and 'latter' is referred to the critics.
(ii) <em>The man gave us a choice between music and sports, I chose the </em><em>former</em><em>, while she chose the </em><em>latter. </em>
