Answer:

The author's purpose in using sensory detail is to show that the narrator understands the value of the piano now that she is older.

Explanation:

The brief excerpt we are studying here was taken from a story called "Two Kinds" written by author Amy Tan. In the story, the narrator is June, the daughter of a Chinese woman in the US. Suyuan, the mother, has high expectations for her daughter. She wants her to be some sort of Shirley Temple, a child prodigy, so she forces June to take piano lessons. June defies her mother throughout the story and, finally, performs awfully at her piano recital to her mother's disappointment.

In the excerpt, June has had the piano tuned after her mother's death. The author uses sensory details - the touch on the keys, the rich sound - to show how differently June feels toward the piano now that she is older. The piano is no longer a nuisance, or even an enemy. It sounds beautiful because it no longer represents a forced destiny, someone else's wishes as to what June should be.

contrast the culture of two different cities New York and Buenos Aires. What makes these cities stand apart from each other cult
Ray Of Light [21]

Answer:

Both New York and Buenos Aires are huge, cosmopolitan cities which are great business and art centers. First, the main difference about them and what makes each of them unique has to do with the fact that Buenos Aires is the capital city of Argentina, while New York is not a capital city.

Secondly, while Porteños (Buenos Aires citizens) speak Spanish, New Yorkers speak English. However, both cities are full of tourists from all over the world so all languages can be heard walking down their streets.

Third, most of the population in both cities work in big companies and commute regularly, so after-office parties can be seen in the Manhattan as well in Puerto Madero, which is a lovely walk by the docks near Rio de la Plata.

Fourth, citizens usually spend their free time and weekends in the park, such as Central Park in New York and smaller parks in Buenos Aires, like the Japanese Garden and Palermo Forest. Thus, the places are often crowded with joggers, young people and families.

Fifth, as regards food, New Yorkers enjoy hamburguers, hot dogs and Chinese food. Porteños, on the other hand, are fond of barbecue, pizza and empanadas.

Finally, New York is a larger city full of impressive, modern buildings and skyscrapers, while Buenos Aires has a more European appearance. In fact, even though it also has magnificent modern constructions, it is often called the Paris of South America due to its mixture of French and English architecture.

How can businesses adapt to the shortage? Should they charge something for ketchup packets? Why or why not?
Elis [28]
If they are losing money they should charge for ketchup packages but charge maybe $0.50 or so but if they are not losing money they should not charge because they are most likely overcharging the food.

According to Haidri, how does one "recollect the emotion itself"?
anastassius [24]

According to Haidri, to "recollect the emotion itself" it is necessary to understand the deeper sensation that an incident provoked.

Although you haven't shown it, we can see that this question refers to "Lottery" written by Rasma Haidri.

By reading this essay, we can see that:

  • The author reflects on what it is to write and edit poetry.
  • She claims that a poem is a difficult text and must be written very carefully.
  • That's because to write poetry efficiently, the author needs to collect, remember emotions.
  • This process consists of recalling an incident that occurred and thinking about the deepest emotion that the incident provided.

The depth of that emotion is what allows a poem to be written in a meaningful way.
