The descendants of the "Anasazi" are considered to be the native communities known as "Pueblo Indians". They group approximately 40,000 people from different communities living in the southwestern United States. Some of these communities are the Zuñi People who live in New Mexico and the Hopi People who live in Arizona.

This last group, has questioned the name of Anasazi because they consider it a derogatory term used by the Navajo People who were enemies. They prefer to use the term "Hisatsinom" to refer to that ancient culture. It is not known with certainty if these communities are direct descendants of the old Hisatsionom or Anasazi (Navajo name) or if they only live in the same territory.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that the communities we know today as "Pueblo Indians" share certain cultural traits, especially in what has to do with architecture, but they have different cosmologies and speak different languages. It is unknown if the ancient Anasazi (Navajo name) or Hisatsimon culture was formed by a single community or if it was several groups that shared some cultural features.
