So x is John's age.
We can solve this problem by working backwards.
Since it's 5 times his age, we first do 5x.
And then since it's five less, we move on to 5x - 5
And then we add the John's age is increased by 11: 5x - 5 = x + 11
I hope this helped :)
(It should be the second one you listed)

Type the correct answer in each box. Use numerals instead of words. If necessary, use / for the fraction bar(s).
Amanda [17]

The number of comic books is an illustration of a linear function

  • The complete equations are: \mathbf{8b + 17 =65} and \mathbf{b =6}
  • The value of b has increased by 4

She had 17 comic books already.

So, we have:

\mathbf{Base\ Amount = 17}

Her order of 65 books contains 8 comic books per collection.

So, we have:

\mathbf{Rate = 8}

\mathbf{Total = 65}

This is represented as:

\mathbf{Rate \times b + Base\ Amount =Total}

So, we have:

\mathbf{8\times b + 17 =65}

Rewrite as:

\mathbf{8b + 17 =65}

Subtract 17 from both sides

\mathbf{8b =48}

Divide both sides by 8

\mathbf{b =6}

Assume she has 97 books in her collection, then the equation would be represented as:

\mathbf{8b + 17 = 97}

Subtract 17 from both sides

\mathbf{8b  = 80}

Divide both sides by 8

\mathbf{b  = 10}

The values of b are 6 and 10.

The difference between 6 and 10 is 4

Hence, the value of b has increased by 4

Can u guys help me with these two problems?? for the first one I got 76 ,but I don't think is right.
Elina [12.6K]

Answer:

See below

Step-by-step explanation:

15)

In the right-angle triangle, once one of the angles is 44º, then, the unknown angle is x.

180 = 44 + 90 + x

180 = 134 + x

x= 46

The angle y of the other triangle plus the angle x of the right-angle triangle is equal to 90º, therefore they are complementary angles.

So,

90 = x + y

90 = 46 + y

y=44

To find ?, we have

180 = 58 + 44 +?

180 = 58 + 44 +?

? =78

16)

The sum of the internal angles of the triangle with angles 50º and 25º is equal to 180º, therefore, the other angle is

180 = x + 50 + 25\\180 = x+ 75\\x=105

Once the angles are opposite, they are the same. For the triangle with the 36º angle, we have

180 = 36 + 105 + y

180 = 141+ y

y=39

?=39
