A research article reports the results of a new drug test. The null hypothesis is that the drug has no effect. The alternative h

ypothesis is that the drug decreases vision loss in people with Macular Degeneration (i.e., the drug is effective). The article gives a p-value of 0.04 in the analysis section. Indicate which of the following interpretations of the p-value are correct. NOTE: There could be more than one answer. A. The probability of getting results at least as extreme as the ones in the study if the drug is actually not effective. B. The probability that the drug is effective. C. The probability that the drug is not effective.

Answer:

A.

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello!

First a little reminder:

The p-value is defined as the probability corresponding to the calculated statistic if possible under the null hypothesis (i.e. the probability of obtaining a value as extreme as the value of the statistic under the null hypothesis).

In the example, the results of a drug test were reported, being the null hypothesis "the drug has no effect" and the alternative hypothesis "the drug decreases vision loss in people with Macular Degeneration"

After conducting the test, the researchers obtained the p-value 0.004

Taking the previous definition of the p-value, the correct answer is A.

To tell whether B. and C. are correct or incorrect there should be specified what signification level was used in the analysis. Remember, the p-value is the probability of the statistic value under the null hypothesis and to use it to make a decision ver the null hypothesis you have to compare it with the signification level. If the p-value is greater than the level of significance, then you don't reject the null hypothesis (Then you can conclude that the drug has no effect) If the p-value is equal or less than the level of significance, then you reject the null hypothesis. (Then you can conclude that the drug decreases the vision loss)

Using a level of signification of 0.01 then the decision is to not reject the null hypothesis but with levels of 0.05 or 0.1 then the decision is to reject it. This is why it is important to know what level of significance was used in the test when interpreting the p-value.

I hope it helps!

The sale bin in a clothing store contains an assortment of t-shirts in different sizes. There are 7 small, 8 medium, and 4 large
umka21 [38]

Answer:

P(at least 1 large) = 0.648

P(at least 1 large) = 64.8%

Step-by-step explanation:

We have 7 small shirts, 8 medium shirts and 4 large shirts

Total number of shirts = 7 + 8 + 4 = 19 shirts

The probability that at least one of the first four shirts he checks is a large is given by

P(at least 1 large) = 1 - P(no large)

So first we need to find the probability that the none of the first four shirts he checks are large.

For the first check, there are 15 small and medium shirts and total 19 shirts so,

15/19

For the second check, there are 14 small and medium shirts and total 18 shirts left so,

14/18

For the third check, there are 13 small and medium shirts and total 17 shirts left so,

13/17

For the forth check, there are 12 small and medium shirts and total 16 shirts left so,

12/16

the probability of not finding the large shirt is,

P(no large) = 15/19*14/18*13/17*12/16

P(no large) = 0.352

Therefore, the probability of finding at least one large shirt is,

P(at least 1 large) = 1 - P(no large)

P(at least 1 large) = 1 - 0.352

P(at least 1 large) = 0.648

P(at least 1 large) = 64.8%

The sum of two numbers is 39. the second number is 6 more than half of the first number. let a represent the firstnumber and let
sweet-ann [11.9K]

Answer:

  • a = 22
  • b = 17

Step-by-step explanation:

Givens

Let a = the first number

Let b = the second number

Equations

a + b = 39

b = 1/2 * a + 6

Put the second equation into the first one

a + 1/2 * a +   6 = 39                  Simplify the left.

(3/2)a + 6 = 39                           Subtract 6 from both sides

(3/2)a + 6 - 6 = 39 - 6                Combine

(3/2)a = 33                                  Multiply both sides by 2

3a = 33*2

3a = 66                                       Divide both sides by 3

3a/3 = 66/3

a = 22

b = 1/2 a + 6

a = 22

b = 1/2 * 22 + 6

b = 11 + 6

b = 17

Check

22 + 17 = 39

Which set of ordered pairs represents a function?
mel-nik [20]
The one that doesn't have an "x" repeated, that is an X-REPEAT
notice, the pair is just an x,y  pair.. .so if the "x" is repeated, is NOT a function

The original price of a computer was reduced by 225 dollars. The new discounter price is 1274 dollars.
Svetlanka [38]

Answer:

1499

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that :

New discounted price = 1274

Let original price = p

Reduction in original price = 225

Original price is the sum of the reduction and the new discounted price

The Original price = Reduction in original price + new discounted price

P = 225 + 1274

P = 1499
