A farmer has a herd of sheep with an average weight of 200 pounds. The heaviest sheep weigh around 350 pounds. He wants to know

if the weight of the sheep is genetic. So, he breeds two of his heaviest sheep. The offspring grow up to weigh 300 pounds.

Through this breeding, the farmer is able to support his claim that the large size of some of the sheep may be genetic. This is due to the fact that when the farmer bred the sheep, the offspring was far larger than the average sheep in the farmer's herd. 
A genetic trait is one that is passed down from parent to offspring, while one acquired by the organism through its environment is not passed to its offspring.

1. Cell starts into mitosis phase of the cell cycle.

2. Helicase begins to break the hydrogen bonds between the nitrogen bases. (The double helix has to be unwound in order to expose the nucleotides)

3. DNA polymerase attach the free-floating nucleotides to the exposed nitrogen bases. (this allows a new DNA strand to be made on the existing one)

4. Free floating nucleotides pair up with exposed nitrogen bases (this is what really builds the new strand, based around the template strand)

5. Two new molecules of DNA are created
