Soil liquefaction occurs when the ground vibrates to the point where the soil acts like liquid

Soil liquefaction takes place when a saturated soil noticeably mislays strength and rigorousness in reaction to pragmatic stress such as shaking of earth during an earthquake, in which matter which is usually a solid act like a fluid.

Further Explanations:

The term solid liquefaction was firstly coined by Allen Hazen in 1918 in relation to the disaster of the Calaveras Dam in California. The phenomenon can be marked in the areas with loose, saturated and sandy soil as these soils have tendencies to compress when load is applied to it. The phenomenon adversely existed in the areas saturated by water like the soil found below the water table. The water gets filled in the gaps of the soil and leads to its compressing.

Pressure exerted during the earthquakes can also force underground water and liquefied sands to spout out to the surface which is termed as “sand boils” and “Sand Volcanoes”. This shaking deform the ground near the raptured faults that lead to the motion of ground downslope towards unsupported margins.

Scientist have found fossils of ocean-dwelling or marine animals in the mountains of Pennsylvania. What does finding fossils of
Ostrovityanka [42]

Answer:

Before mountain building occurred, the area was underwater.

Explanation:

Through excavation, fossils that are of marine animals are often found high on mountain ranges. This seems weird from today's perspective, as marine animals can only be found in ocean waters, and there is no way they can travel on land and upon the mountains. Earth has changed a lot throughout history though, so such occurances are actually not that weird.

The mountains in Pennsylvania are such a place, with an abundance of marine fossils. When we look at the geological past of what is now Pennsylvania we can easily see why this is the case. The whole area was actually underwater for millions of years. This was the case before mountain building occurred here when part of the ocean floor raised high above the surface of the water and created land. As the crust was going up, the fossils on it went up as well.
