A sheet of paper is cut into 3 same size pieces and then cut 3 more and so on..... after the 4th cut, how many pieces? after the nth cut, how many pieces?

after the 2nd cut: 9 or 3²
after the 3rd cut: 27 or 3³
after the 4th cut: 81 or 3⁴

after the 7th cut: 3⁷ = 2187 small pieces of paper
