In the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson uses literary attention technique by describing tyrannical actions of King George III and asking for independence from Great Britain. In "Hope, Despair and Memory," the author compares this past to the future when he discusses his experience in a concentration camp in Germany during World War II. He uses literary technique by using details in his memory about the past in order to compare them to events happening in present time today.
