One of their hypotheses was that Fus3 kinase is required for the signal transduction pathway leading to shmoo formation. If this

hypothesis is correct, what result should be observed in the Fus3 strain?
A. The Fus3 strain should not form shmoos, and the cells should not have a red zone in their walls.
B. The Fus3 strain should form green-stained shmoos.
C. The Fus3 strain should look the same as the wild type and form shmoos that stain red.
D. The Fus3 strain should form multiple red-stained shmoos.

The result that should be observed in the Fus3 strain is, ‘The Fus3 strain should look the same as the wild type and form shmoos that stain red.’

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

Fus3 is a MAPK (Mitogen Activated Protein Kinase) which is involved in the intercourse of the yeast. During the mating process, both the Fus3 kinase as well as the group of protein are equally divided though a yeast cell.

And at the time of the intercourse, there is an emergence of the shmoo formation, and this formation results into the building of microfilaments. This way, the Fus3 strain should look the same as the wild type and form shmoo that stain red.
