Why did American soldiers returning home from Vietnam meet such an indifferent reception compared to the welcome given to the so
klemol [59]

Answer:

During the 2nd world war, media was mainly based on news papers and radio and governments strictly controlled the flow of information to the public. Because of this, each nation exaggerated their armies and their actions. N matter how they have acted during the war, ethical or not, they were hailed as heroes and their "misbehaviours" were "Covered up".

How ever, during the vietnam war, private media networks, independent journalists and media were able to reach the war zones and extract the true stories from the field. Moreover, the media was mainly based on television unlike in the WW2 era, this gave audiences exclusive access to whats happening in the war zone.

Moreover, this flow of information allowed to develop a dialogue among the american citizens about the US intervention in vietnam and the human and monetary cost of it.

Because of this, the people had a different view of the combatants returning from the vietnam compared to the ww2.
