Athanasius fought for the orthodox position at the Council of Nicea and was instrumental in the development of the Nicene Creed.

At this assembly Athanasius celebrated himself with his discipleship, prosperity, and zeal for Orthodoxy. He contributed a great deal to the suppression of Arianism and to establish Orthodoxy. He created the Symbol of Faith, which was adopted on the Council. Upon the death of Athanasius, Alexander, he would be elected  as Archbishop of Alexandria.

Explanation:

  • The Council, held in Nicea in Asia Minor during May and June of  325 in the lavish halls of the Imperial Palace, is usually presented as one of the glorious chapters in the history of the Christian church.
  • 318 Holy Fathers participated in this Council. Council condemned the teaching of Arius and handed him to anathema, since he did not want to repent.
