How does Rutherford model of the atom compare with Thomson’s model

Hi

Both Rutherford and JJ Thomson (Two physicists) proposed the structure (or model) of atom in 1908 and 1904 respectively, below are the main differences between their models.

  • 1: Rutherford's atomic model was commonly known as planetary model while Thomson's atomic model is commonly known as Plum pudding model.
  • 2: According to Rutherford's model, there was a concept of nucleus and it indicated for the first time in history that atom contains central nucleus filled with positively charged protons surrounded by electrons in fixed orbits, so the whole structure is similar to our planetary system in which planets revolve around the sun just like electrons revolve around the nucleus. On the other hand, Thomson's model showed that atom is basically a positively charged floating filling inside which are negatively charged raisins or electrons.
  • 3: Thomson's model was rejected even though he received Noel prize for his work however, Rutherford's proposed structure was considered accurate and more reliable when  he proposed it in 1908 and till date the modern atomic models are based on Rutherford's atomic model.

Hope it helps!

Scientists use various types of models to represent real world activity. For instance, computer models are used to predict weath
Annette [7]

Answer:

(B.) their predictions are almost never accurate

Explanation:

A model is a representation of an idea, process that scientists use in explaining a complex data to a more simple and understable way. Models reflect the natural world e.g. climate models are used by humans to learn and to know about carbon cycles, water cycles and the weather. Model do come with some limitations one of them is an incomplete detail e.g. measuring the distance round the earth, we were made to believe that the model of the Earth is spherical, so in calculating the distance round the earth certain details are missing like the variations in distance caused by valleys and mountains and other topological problems that might be encountered.

Mice collected from the Sonoran desert have two phenotypes, dark(D) and light (d). The mice shown below were collected in a trap
lesantik [10]

Answer:

Frequency of individuals with recessive trait(dd)= 71.4 %

Explanation:

Please see the attached.

In the image it is clear that there are total 26 mouse out of which 6 are dark colored.

Since dark color allele is dominant, these  6 dark colored mouse will have genotype either  DD or Dd

The individuals with genotype "dd" will be of light color.

Number of light colored mouse = 21 -6 = 15

Frequency of individuals with recessive trait(dd)

= \frac{15}{21} * 100\\

= 71.4 %
