These ideas are usually of a very personal nature, and often linked with a person's identity and background. Therefore, people can often feel attacked when these ideas are challenged, which leads to conflict and anger. However, the difficulty of having these types of conversation does not mean that we should not attempt to engage in respectful dialogue when possible.
