To in-line skater‘s Nell and Kristen start from the same point and skate in the same direction. skate at 12 mph and Kristen skate 14 mph if they can keep up that pace for 2.5 hours how far apart will they be at the end of that time?

distance (d) = rate (r) x time (t)

Nell: d = 12(2.5)   = 30 miles

Kristen: d = 14(2.5)   = 35 miles

Kristen - Nell = distance apart

    35   -   30

          5

Answer: 5 miles apart
