The reason for this was mostly that they didn't liked the development of capitalism, as they thought that it will create a very large gap between the few rich and all the rest, thus shift the power only in the hands of few people. They were much more fond of the ideas of the socialism, and they thought that the socialism will create a much more equal and fair environment for the development and well being of everyone.
