African Americans in the North and South experienced discrimination. In the North, discrimination was less overt. In the South, it was very direct. Black Northerners could vote and enjoy some civil rights. In the South, civil rights and protections were nonexistent.
Because women are equal people and wanted to be treated as such. the laws affected them too, so it was only fair they had a say. men are a bit dim, but they primarily wanted to keep exploiting women.
