Victor make to be create his monster for the betterment of the humankind. He made it in arrogance or being like god.

Explanation:

When Victor after stitching the several parts of the body of human being corpses, it creates a new human being. Victor reanimate the dead and succeeded. But soon he he got faded and repulsed from his creation and its ugliness.

He soon get in deep depression and shun with his creation. He is shun because of his creation in which he conquered the death. His replacement of god has completed.

Victor was similar to the character of Goethe's Faust. Faust was quest for the knowledge and make a deal with devil and later on he was rescued by the god.
