The correct answer is “it was formerly the custom in our village when a poor debtor came out of jail, for his acquaintances to salute him, looking through their fingers which were crossed to represent the granting of a jail window, “How do ye do?”

The line from “Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau that may have influenced John Lewis beliefs is: “it was formerly the custom in our village when a poor debtor came out of jail, for his acquaintances to salute him, looking through their fingers which were crossed to represent the granting of a jail window, “How do ye do?”

Henry D. Thoreau wrote “Resistance to Civil Government (Civil DIsobedience)” in 1949. He asked people to never allow a bad government to influence their lives. John Lewis is a civil rights activist and a former Congressman. He received inspiration form Thoreau ideas.

When Harry “thought” that and earwig had dropped into his tea, this was the first clue that something mysterious would happen. This is because it tells the reader that Harry was wrong in his original assumption that it was an earwig and in reality is actually something else. Also, when the doctor originally takes the lizard out of Effie’s eye, he says that it is “very interesting.” This also is mysterious, because the reader wants to know what is “very interesting” but they haven’t seen it yet!

i hope my answer was ok, good luck!
