Answer: The Southern colonies were most of them Anglican, because of England.

They believed that God had ordained the slavery. The North and the South believed that God was with them, and that the war was the will of God. They put God’s imprimatur on the Confederate national identity.

The Southerners portrayed slavery as more benevolent than cruel, because of the Christianity.
