The United States tried to stay neutral during the Napoleonic period, but it became involved in European conflicts.

Explanation:

There was a fight between Great Britain and France for getting European Supremacy, and the participation of the United States in this conflict led this country to the War of 1812 against Great Britain.

At that time, the United State's president Thomas Jefferson made an  embargo on all foreign trade to weaken the British Economy because the relations between these two countries were so difficult during that period.
