The scientific names of microbes have two parts. The first part is the name of the genus to which the microbe belongs. The first letter of the name of the genus is written in capital. The second part of the name includes the name of the species. The name of species is not capitalized. For example, <em>Salmonella typhimurium</em> is the scientific name of a microbe that causes typhoid in humans. The name tells that it belongs to the genus "Salmonella" and species "typhimurium".
