Between 1945 and 1989, the Cold War divided the world into two hemispheres of influence, the United States and its capitalist allies; and the Soviet Union, which led the communist faction. These two countries were considered as the superpowers of that time, exerting total influence over the vast majority of relevant international decisions.

After the Soviet Union disintegrated in the early 1990s, the United States of America consolidated itself as the only remaining superpower of the Cold War, thus moving from a bipolar world, with two antagonistic systems, to a unipolar world, with a single superpower, and several minor powers with social and economic systems similar to capitalism defended by the United States.

I would say that the spread of democracy led to the industrial revolution because it enabled everyone to start their own businesses, thus establishing a capitalistic society whose economy was governed by industrialists.
