The coordinates of the top of a tree are (-3,8), and an acorn is attached to the tree at (-1,5). If we know that the acorn lies

exactly halfway between a squirrel and the top of the tree, what are the coordinates of the squirrel?

Let's say that the coordinates of the squirrel are: (x, y)

Since the coordinates of the acorn is halfway, between the tree and the squirrel, that means the acorn is the midpoint.

To work out the midpoint you do:

(sum of x-coordinates) divided by 2,  (sum of y coordinates) divided by 2.

We can use this to form an equation .

So the sum of the x coordinates of the tree and the squirrel = -1   :

x-coordinates of the squirrel:

\frac{-3+x}{2}=-1                   <em>(now solve for x)</em>

-3+x = -2

x=1

y-coordinates:

\frac{8+y}{2}=5                   <em>(now solve for y)</em>

8+y=10

y = 2

So the coordinates of the squirrel are: (1, 2)

Answer:

(1,2)

Step-by-step explanation:

By the information given in the problem, we know that the midpoint of the squirrel's coordinates and the tree's coordinates are the coordinates of the acorn on the tree.

Let the squirrel's coordinates be $(x,y)$ so we have $$\left(\frac{-3+x}{2},\frac{8+y}{2}\right)=(-1,5).$$Solving $\frac{-3+x}{2}=-1$ and $\frac{8+y}{2} = 5$, we find that the squirrel's coordinates are $\boxed{(1,2)}$.

Need someone with a big brain to help lol<br> Solve for x
AfilCa [17]

Answer:

x=4

Step-by-step explanation:

Hey there!

I am going to use this image as an example so you can understand the formula

The formula for problems like these is

B(BA)=D(DC)

So all we have to do is plug in the numeric values

so now we have 5(5+x+3)=6(6+x)

now we just solve for x

5(5+x+3)=6(6+x)

step 1 distribute the 5 to what is in the parenthesis (5, x and 3)

5x5=25

5*x=5x

5x3=15

so now we have

25+5x+15=6(6+x)

step 2 distribute the 6 to what is in the parenthesis (6 and x)

6x6=36

6*x=6x

now we have

25+5x+15=6x=36

step 3 combine like terms, the only like terms are 25 and 15

15+25=40

now we have

40+5x=6x+36

step 4 subtract 5x from each side

5x-5x cancels out

6x-5x=x

now we have

40=x+36

step 5 subtract 36 from each side

40-36=4

36-36 cancels out

now we have

x=4 so we can conclude that x=4

hope this helps :)

An airplane flies from City 1 at (0, 0) to City 2 at (33, 56) and then to City 3 at (23, 32). What is the total number of miles
uranmaximum [27]

Answer:

The airplane flies 95 miles.

Step-by-step explanation:

  1. First we need to find the distance for the first segment using the formula for distance D=\sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^2 + (y_{2}-y_{1})^2}. Let's say (x_{1},y_{1}) is (0, 0) and (x_{2},y_{2}) is (33, 56). This gets us that the length of this segment is 65 miles.
  2. Next, we need to find the distance for the second segment. Using the same formula for distance  D=\sqrt{(x_{2}-x_{1})^2 + (y_{2}-y_{1})^2}, we can say (x_{1},y_{1}) is now (33, 56) and (x_{2},y_{2}) is now (23, 32). This gets us that the length of this segment is 26 miles.
  3. To get the total distance traveled, add the length of these two segments together (65 miles + 26 miles) to get 91 total miles traveled.
