The phrase the iron curtain is associated with what era of history?
Vinil7 [7]

Answer:

The phrase iron curtain was used at different times in different contexts. originally it refers to the safety curtains deployed in theaters. But it became more famous in the cold war era when it was used to denote the economic, political and military barrier by the Soviet Union to block itself and its allied nations from the open contact with the western European countries. It virtually divided Europe into two areas of influence with western European countries on the one end and pro-communist eastern European countries on the other.

The Wilmot Proviso (1846) attempted to forever ban slavery in territories that were won as a result
andrezito [222]

The correct answer is the Mexican American War

David Wilmot was a Congressman from the state of Pennsylvania who wanted to ban slavery from exisiting in the new territories that the US received after the Mexican American War. This includes modern day California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, etc.

Wilmot's idea was met with fierece opposition from Southern politicians. This is due to the fact that this would result in a significant increase in power for anti-slave states in Congress. Southerners feared that if Northern politicians gained too much power in Congress, they would outlaw the institution of slavery all over the United States. This fierece opposition is one of the reasons why the Wilmot Proviso is never actually used.
