During the decolonization of Congo, here are the five important things that occurred:

1. Prior to independence, the Congolese voted a president, Joseph Kasavubu, prime minister, Patrice Lumumba, a senate and assembly, and other postion in the Congo’s various level of government.

2. On July 5, 1960, Congolese soldiers in the Force Publique mutinied against their white Belgian commanders at the Thysville military base, agitating for higher pay and more opportunity and authority.

3. On July 11, 1960, the richer Katanga province had declared its independence from the Republic of the Congo, which was later followed in August by South Kasai province.

4. On July 13, the United Nations agreed on resolution which made the creation of an intervention force, named Organisations des Nations Unies au Congo (ONUC), and called for the withdrawal of all Belgian troops.

5. On September 5, Kasavubu dismissed Lumumba from the government. Lumumba ignored the decree and dismissed Kasavubu.

6. On September 14, 1960, in a bid to avoid civil war, Colonel Joseph Mobutu of the Congolese National Army (CNA) carried out a coup d’état and later ordered the Soviets out of the country.

It should also be noted that Patrice Lumumba was later arrested and killed, under Joseph Mobutu administration.

What was the significance of a number of conservative democrats changing their party affiliation beginning in 1964?
Vaselesa [24]
Democrats had been losing elections in what had long been considered solid Democratic territory in the South. Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat who took up the presidency after John F. Kennedy was assassinated, had become associated in the minds of voters with the civil rights movement. The civil rights movement aimed to give black Americans equality. This did not sit well with white voters in the South. In the 1964 presidential election, the Republican candidate, Barry Goldwater, won the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Nevertheless, Johnson prevailed and won the election. But it showed conservative Democrats were willing to shift to the Republican party if they felt it more closely aligned with their views.

Why was the battle of Vicksburg, portrayed why is it important for both the union and confederate forces
ycow [4]

Answer:

The Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi, additionally called the Siege of Vicksburg, was the culmination of a long land and maritime crusade by Union powers to catch a key vital position amid the American Civil War.

President Abraham Lincoln perceived the significance of the town arranged on a 200-foot feign over the Mississippi River. He stated, "Vicksburg is the key, the war can never be concluded until that key is in our pocket."

Capturing Vicksburg would disjoin the Trans-Mississippi Confederacy from that east of the Mississippi River and open the stream to Northern traffic along its whole length.
