Neo-Confucianism was the resurrection of Confucianism after it had lost credibility after the fall of the Han Dynasty. It reinforced patriarchy in society and emphasized intellect and scholarship as desirable masculine traits. The difference between Confucianism during the Han Dynasty and Neo-Confucianism is that Neo-Confucianism incorporates some Daoist and Buddhist ideas.
