Schlesinger was referring to the tendency for presidents to increase their power beyond normal consitutional limits in times of war.

Arthur Schlesinger's 1973 book, The Imperial Presidency, detailed how wartime situations tended to allow presidents to accrue to themselves larger powers than granted by the US Constitution. President Johnson's actions in obtaining the Tonkin Gulf Resolution from Congress in 1964 is an example, giving the President extremely wide leeway in use of the military, which escalated US involvement in Vietnam. But that's only one example, and Schlesinger's argument looked at how presidential powers, particularly in foreign affairs, tended to be increased by all presidents in wartime.

In an article that Schlesinger wrote during the Reagan presidency, he quoted a Civil War era example:

 • “We elect a king every four years,” Secretary of State William H. Seward told a London Times correspondent during the Civil War, “and give him absolute power within certain limits, which after all he can interpret for himself.”

In that same article, Schlesinger noted: "Presidents Truman, Johnson, Nixon, and Reagan thereafter assumed that the power to send troops into combat is an inherent right of the presidency and does not require congressional authorization."

Citation: "The Imperial Temptation," by Arthur Schlesinger, The New Republic, March 14, 1987.

Imperial presidency term was used by Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr. to describe the presidency of the United States. Schlesinger wrote the book The Presidency because of his concerns that US presidency was uncontrollable and according to him, exceeded the constitutional limit. This book is where the term imperial presidency became notable.

Why do men have the need to kill, the need for power, and the love of hatred?
nikklg [1K]
Well, everybody has their own reasons for literally everything. It all depends on what's happened in the person's life. If someone loses someone, or get's hurt, or something they take out their pain on other people, leading them to kill people.

All of this goes under sociology, behavioral science, criminology, victimology, and psychology.

As for hatred, I don't know that people "love" it. People just have a need to be defiant and rebellious.

As for power, people are sometimes control freaks. They need to be in control of all situations. This has to do with how they were treated as a child. If they were beaten, or bullied, they'd like to rise up and become the beater or the bully.

Hope that helps!

Answer: Communist

Explanation:

China, Cuba, and North Korea all have one thing in common, and that they are ruled by a communist party. However, apart from that the three really have nothing else in common. North Korea is very isolationist and has a barely functioning economy, Cuba is autocratic and its economy is also poor, the only outlier here is China which is prospering due to its semi-Capitalistic economic policies. The question could definitely be worded better in my opinion.
