The answer is C. It does say in the passage that it can focus on emotion, and it does. But C would be the answer because most of the passage is trying to tell us how much skill and dedication that someone needs to have to be able to master the art of ballet.

A <u>topic sentence</u> is the sentence that summarizes the main idea of the paragraph and organizes it, so it is usually the first sentence of the paragraph -although it does not have to be.

In this case, since it provides a brief introduction to what the author develops in the paragraph, the topic sentence that best applies to this passage is:

C.) Ballet is a performance dance that requires great skill and dedication.

What argument does the speaker make in "Is a Penny Saved Worth Anything?"
EastWind [94]

It is often heard that even a coin saved counts towards making bigger savings in the future.  So, the penny saved still has many purposes to be served, like it brings back memories of simpler times.

<h3>What are savings?</h3>

The amount that is indisposed after making all the necessary purchases are known as savings. Savings money is generally a part of money someone accumulates over the years.

In the above case, when the author says that every penny is still worth more purposes, it means that the every penny that someone saves is as good as earning that penny.

Hence, option B holds true of the penny savings.

Read this excerpt from Holes. Sarah changed the words of the pig lullaby so that they rhymed, and every night she sang it to lit
vlabodo [156]

Answer:

They parallel Stanley's wish that things had turned out differently for him.

Explanation:

Louis Sachar's "Holes" revolves around the wrongful accusation against the protagonist, Stanley Yelnats who was put in a detention center. And it was in this detention camp that they were made to dig holes all day, without really knowing what they were looking for.

The change in the lyrics sang by Sarah shows the predicament that her great-great-grandson Stanley will be in. Sarah sang the song about the pig stealing Yelnats that began the 'curse' on the family. And the <em>"if only"</em> of the song parallel Stanley's wish for a different outcome of his life.

Thus, the <u>correct answer is the last/ fourth option</u>.

Select the correct answer. Which phrase is a noun phrase in the given paragraph? Since childhood Jess has been interested in the
deff fn [24]

Answer:  The correct answer is:  [B]:  " the art of story telling. "

_____________________________

Explanation:

_____________________________

The given excerpt is as follows:

      Since childhood, Jess has been interested in the art of storytelling. She would entertain her little brother and sister with tales of magic and adventure. She started writing stories almost as soon as she learned the alphabet. To write her stories, Jess relies on her colorful imagination.

___________________________

Let us consider the other answer choices:

Choice  [A]: "has been interested" ;

Choice  [C]:  "would entertain" ;

Choice  [D]:  "started writing" ;

     are all "<u>verb phrases</u>" ; that do not contain any "noun"— or subject or object—nor do they function as a "noun" or "subject" in any way.

Choice  [E]:  "as soon as" ;  is an "adverb phrase" that describes "when" something is about to happen —(albeit not very specific about "when"—in this particular explanation.

____________________________

Choice:  [B]:  " the art of storytelling" ;  is the correct answer.

____________________________

This is clearly a "noun phrase" ; since it begins with a noun [athough this is not required to be a "noun phrase"]—and is modified by a "gerund" [i.e. modified by further explanation—by using the words "of storytelling"] ; in which the "gerund" is "storytelling".  Gerunds are nouns formed from "verb forms ending in -ing" —which <u>function as a noun</u>.
