It is considered that the central region is the smallest of all in terms of area, since the Federal District, Tlaxcala and Morelos are the entities that have less extension at national level. Main relief forms:
The Eastern Sierra Madre crosses the eastern part of the region
The Transversal Volcanic System crosses the region from east to west in its southern part. In it are located several volcanoes such as: the snow of Toluca, the malinche, Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl, among others
The mountains of Guanajuato and San Luis are located in the north of the region.
Part of the sierra madre del Sur penetrates the states of Mexico Morelos and Puebla.
Within its territory are located: the valley of Toluca, the valleys of Querétaro, the plains of Apan del Mezquital, etc., and the plains of El Bajío (most of them).
