Antislavery Senator Daniel Webster agreed to compromise with proslavery senators because A. He was willing to compromise to keep the United States together. Senator Calhoun's speech stated that southerners should have the right to take slaves, as their personal properties, anywhere. Although an abolitionist, Senator Daniel Webster was willing to comprise to keep the Union together, that was more important to him than free soil.
