The Arts and Crafts movement was a response to the social and aesthic changes brought on by the Industial Revolution.
Artists in this movement spent a lot of time focusing on quality, appeal, and design because they were discontent with the cold, mechanical, and indifferent face of new 19th century designs.
Many scales are diatonic including Major, Minor (the Harmonic minor is an exception) and modal scales. Examples of non-diatonic scale are pentatonic, octatonic and whole-tone scales.
