This question is about "To build a fire."

What motivates a man to travel is the feeling that he will be able to reach the camp after a few hours of walking. In the accommodation he will have food and warmth to protect himself from the intense climate that he is subjected to. The hope of arriving at the camp makes the man have the courage to walk many kilometers, in the extreme cold, as the temperature was -75ºF.

Man's motivations change during the journey because he needs to do things that will allow him to survive.
