Market research indicates that a new product has the potential to make the company an additional $1.6 million, with a standard d

eviation of $2.5 million. If these estimates were based on a sample of 12 customers from a normally distributed data set, what would be the 95% confidence interval?a. (0.00, 3.69) b. (-0.13, 3.33) c. (-0.49, 3.69) d.(-0.09, 4.10)

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval would be given by (0.011;3.2188)

But on this case the most accurate option seems to be : a. (0.00, 3.69)

Explanation:

Previous concepts

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

Solution to the problem

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\bar X \pm t_{\alpha/2}\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}} (1)

In order to calculate the critical value t_{\alpha/2} we need to find first the degrees of freedom, given by:

df=n-1=12-1=11

Since the Confidence is 0.95 or 95%, the value of \alpha=0.05 and \alpha/2 =0.025, and we can use excel, a calculator or a table to find the critical value. The excel command would be: "=-T.INV(0.025,11)".And we see that t_{\alpha/2}=2.201

Now we have everything in order to replace into formula (1):

1.6-2.201\frac{2.5}{\sqrt{12}}=0.011

1.6+2.201\frac{2.5}{\sqrt{12}}=3.188

So on this case the 95% confidence interval would be given by (0.011;3.2188)

But on this case the most accurate option seems to be : a. (0.00, 3.69)

The demand for one of X Company’s products has declined in recent years. The product is manufactured using designated equipment
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

$230,000

Revised Question:

The demand for one of X Company's products has declined in recent years. The product is manufactured using designated equipment that originally cost $1,300,000 and has a carrying value of $720,000. As of the current date, December 31, 2012, it is expected that only an additional 400,000 units are likely to be sold over the remaining life of the equipment. Each unit sells for $3 and has a manufacturing cost of $1.50. Relevant information as of December 31, 2018:

The undiscounted future cash inflows from the sale of products over the life of the equipment is expected to be $600,000.

The present value of the future cash inflows from the sale of products over the life of the equipment, calculated at the company's cost of capital, is $475,000.

The equipment has a fair value of $490,000 on the date of evaluation.

How much of an impairment loss will X Company recognize in 2018?

Explanation:

IAS 36 Impairment of Assets states that company's or entity's assets can not be carried at more than their Recoverable Amount

Recoverable Amount equals to higher of Fair Value less cost of disposal and Value in Use

Value in Use is net present value (NPV) of future cashflows generated by an asset.

Lets calculate the Recoverable amount of the equipment of Company X:

Fair Value less Cost of disposal = $490,000 - 0 = $490,000

Value in Use = discounted future cashflows from equipment = $475,000

So Recoverable Amount is higher of Fair Value less cost of disposal and Value in Use i.e $490,000

Impairment Loss = Carrying Value - Recoverable Amount

                              = $720,000 - $490,000

                              = $230,000

During 2019 the Barker Company had a net income of $75,000. Below is information taken from Barker’s last two balance sheets: 20
Kitty [74]

Answer:

cash provided by operating activities 84,000

Explanation:

net income 75,000

Adjustment (A)

gain on land (500)

depreciation 1,500

Adjusted net income 76,000

Change in working capital

↑account receivable (3,000) (B)

↓long term AR 10,000 (C)

↑Account payable 1,000 (D)

Net changes 8,000

cash provided by operating activities 84,000

Notes:

(A)

The net income may have non-monetary term, we need to remove those to get and adjusted net income on a cash basis

the gain on land is not a monetary term. We will record the proceeds in cash for the sale under investment activities, not operating as the business is not selling land every year.

depreciation is an accounting metric, is not an actual expense, it doesn't involve cash.

(B)

the increasein the Ar means more sales were not collected therefore, less cash collected.

(C)

the decrease in the long term AR represent the collection, so it increases the cash

(D)

the increase in account payable represent the delay of payment, so company has more cash available.

Suppose that an investor with a 10-year investment horizon is considering purchasing a 20-year 8% coupon bond selling for $900.
leonid [27]

Answer:

8.67%

Explanation:

PMT (Semi-annual coupon) = par value*coupon rate/2 = 1,000*8%/2 = 40

N (No of coupons paid) = 10*2 = 20

Rate (Semi-annual reinvestment rate) = 7%/2 = 3.5%

Future value of reinvested coupons = FV(PMT, N, Rate)

Future value of reinvested coupons = FV(40, 20, 3.5%)

Future value of reinvested coupons = $1,131.19

FV = 1,000

PMT (Semi-annual coupons) = 40

N (No of coupons pending) = 10*2 = 20

Rate (Semi-annual YTM) = 9%/2 = 4.5%

Price of the bond after 10 years = PV(FV, PMT, N, RATE)

Price of the bond after 10 years = PV(1000, 40, 20, 4.5%)

Price of the bond after 10 years = $934.96

Total amount after 10 years = Future value of reinvested coupons + Price of the bond after 10 years

Total amount after 10 years = $1,131.19 + $934.96

Total amount after 10 years = $2,066.15

Amount invested (Price of the bond now) = $900.

Total Annual Return = [(Total amount after 10 years / Amount invested)^(1/holding period)] -1

Total Annual Return = [($2,066.15/$900)^(1/10)] -1

Total Annual Return = [2.295722^0.1] - 1

Total Annual Return = 1.08665561792 - 1

Total Annual Return = 0.08665561792

Total Annual Return = 8.67%

Elis [28]

Answer:

c. volume of goods or services moved to or from location i

Explanation:

we know as per Rectilinear Distance formula

Wi = Ci ×  Qi   .........................1

here Wi is the transportation cost of carry load for the customer “i”

we can say it is weighted load values so volume of goods or services moved to or from location

so correct option is c. volume of goods or services moved to or from location i
