Market research indicates that a new product has the potential to make the company an additional $1.6 million, with a standard d

eviation of $2.5 million. If these estimates were based on a sample of 12 customers from a normally distributed data set, what would be the 95% confidence interval?a. (0.00, 3.69) b. (-0.13, 3.33) c. (-0.49, 3.69) d.(-0.09, 4.10)

Answer:

The 95% confidence interval would be given by (0.011;3.2188)

But on this case the most accurate option seems to be :  a. (0.00, 3.69)

Explanation:

Previous concepts

A confidence interval is "a range of values that’s likely to include a population value with a certain degree of confidence. It is often expressed a % whereby a population means lies between an upper and lower interval".

The margin of error is the range of values below and above the sample statistic in a confidence interval.

Normal distribution, is a "probability distribution that is symmetric about the mean, showing that data near the mean are more frequent in occurrence than data far from the mean".

Solution to the problem

The confidence interval for the mean is given by the following formula:

\bar X \pm t_{\alpha/2}\frac{s}{\sqrt{n}} (1)

In order to calculate the critical value t_{\alpha/2} we need to find first the degrees of freedom, given by:

df=n-1=12-1=11

Since the Confidence is 0.95 or 95%, the value of \alpha=0.05 and \alpha/2 =0.025, and we can use excel, a calculator or a table to find the critical value. The excel command would be: "=-T.INV(0.025,11)".And we see that t_{\alpha/2}=2.201

Now we have everything in order to replace into formula (1):

1.6-2.201\frac{2.5}{\sqrt{12}}=0.011

1.6+2.201\frac{2.5}{\sqrt{12}}=3.188

So on this case the 95% confidence interval would be given by (0.011;3.2188)

But on this case the most accurate option seems to be :  a. (0.00, 3.69)

g Sparky Corporation uses the FIFO method of process costing. The following information is available for February in its Molding
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

Total equivalent unit of material =   140,000 units

Explanation:

<em>Equivalent units are used to apportion cost between completed units and work in progress. They represent notional whole units which represent incomplete work. </em>

<em>Under the first in first method , to account for completed units during a production period the opening inventory units are assumed to completed first before newly the newly introduced units.</em>

<em>So we can work out the equivalents units as follows:</em>

<em>Fully worked units :These represent units started this period of production and completed in the same period. This is given as 110,000 units</em>

Equivalent units (EU)

<em>Item                           unit          Workings               EU</em>

Opening inventory     25,000     0% × 25,000     =   0

Fully worked            110,000    100% × 110,000 =   110,000

Closing inventory    30,000      100%× 30,000 =   <u>30,000</u>

Total equivalent unit of material                           <u>140,000</u>

<u />

<em>Note that for the opening inventory already 100% material work has been done the preceding period , so there wont be any work left to be done in respect of materials.</em>

Psari's, a company that sells fishing nets, provides the following information about its product: Targeted operating income $
Molodets [167]

Answer:

B. 66.67%

Explanation:

Contribution is the difference between the company's total revenue and the total variable cost. The ratio of the contribution to sales or revenue gives the contribution margin ratio.

The contribution may also be derived from the addition of the fixed cost and the operating income.

Contribution margin

= $115,000 + $54,000

= $169,000

Let the number of units to be sold to achieve targeted income be U

6U - 2U - 115,000 = 54,000

4U = 169,000

U = 42,250

Contribution margin ratio = 169000/(6 * 42,250)

= 66.67%

The supply curve of labor is upward sloping if:____________
horsena [70]

Answer:

Option A, “the substitution effect dominates the income effect” is correct.

Explanation:

If the real wage increases then the opportunity cost for leisure will also increase. Therefore, an increase in real wages and a rise in the opportunity cost of leisure induce labor to supply more workforce or labor force. This is known as the substitution effect. Moreover, when this substitution effect is greater than the income effect then the supply curve for labor is upward sloping.

Gusler Corporation makes one product and has provided the following information:
Gre4nikov [31]

Answer:

$807,500

Explanation:

First determine the cost per unit (U) as a function of cost of materials (M):

M = 2 * $2.00 = $4.00

And cost of labor and overhead (L):

L = 2.7*($20.00+$10.00)

L= $81.00

Total cost per unit is:

U = M + L = $4.00+ $81.00

U = $85.00

The estimate cost of goods sold for the month of May (C) is the product of the cost per unit by the number of units sold during the month (9,500):

C= $85.00*9,500

C= $807,500

Therefore, the estimated cost of goods sold for May is closest to $807,500
