Two angles in a triangle add up to 78o. What is the size of the third angle?

The size of the third angle is 102 degrees.

This is because all three angles should always equal 180 degrees. If two of them make up 78 degrees, then you do 180-78 to fine the last angle.

You invest $15,000 to start a hot dog stand at the local sports complex. It costs you $.65 to produce each hot dog. How many hot
SCORPION-xisa [38]

Answer:

  • Below is the procedure to find the answer: 30,000 hot dogs.

Explanation:

The <em>average cost </em>is found dividing the total cost by the number of hot dogs:

         Average\text{ }cost=Total\text{ }cost/Number\text{ }of\text{ }hot\text{ }dogs

The total cost is the the sum of amount that you invest plus the product of the cost of producing each hot dog times the number of hot dogs:

Total\text{ }cost=investment+Number\text{ }of\text{ }hot\text{ }dogs\times cost\text{ }to\text{ }produce\text{ }each\text{ }hot\text{ }dog

  • Substitute the values:

           Total\text{ }cost=15,000+0.65x\\ \\ Averate\text{ }cost=(15,000+0.65x)/x=1.15

Where x is the number of hot dogs.

  • Solve for x from the equation:

         (15,000+0.65x)/x=1.15\\ \\ 15,000+0.65x=1.15x\\ \\ 15,000=1.15x-0.65x\\ \\ 15,000=0.5x\\ \\ 15,000/0.5=x\\ \\ 30,000=x\\ \\ x=30,000

Which shows you how you can find that the answer is 30,000 hot dogs.

Angle measures and segment lengths. Algebra Find the value of each variable.
Katyanochek1 [597]

(9)

<em>x</em> ° = 1/2 (130° - 30°) = 50°

(due to a theorem about intersecting secants/tangents)

(11) The labeled angle subtends a minor arc of meaure 120°, which means the larger arc has a measure of 360° - 120° = 240°. Then

<em>x</em> ° = 1/2 (240° - 120°) = 60°

(due to the same theorem)

(13) The labeling here is a bit confusing. I'm not sure what the 70° is referring to. It occurs to me that it might be info from a different exercise, so that <em>y </em>° is the measure of the angle made by the tangent to the circle with a vertex of the pentagon, and <em>x</em> ° is the measure of each arc that passes over an edge of the pentagon.

Each arc makes up 1/5 of the circle's circumferece, so

<em>x</em> ° = 360°/5 = 72°

The pentagon is regular, so each of its interior angles have the same measure of 108°. (Why 108°? Each exterior angle measures 360°/5 = 72°, since the exterior angles sum to 360°. Interior and exterior angles are supplementary, so the interior angles measure 180° - 72° = 108° each.)

The angles formed by the tangent to the circle are supplementary, so that

<em>y</em> ° + 108° + <em>y</em> ° = 180°

2<em>y</em> ° = 72°

<em>y</em> ° = 36°
